One-day-hikes versus several-days-hikes: what are the differences?

There are a lot of different things encompassed in the term hiking. This can include anything from a couple of hours on a crowded trail or a weeklong trip. It is important to keep in mind that there are some pretty important differences in hikes that last for one day and those that last for several days.

The obvious difference between one day hikes and hikes that lasts several days is that on the hikes that last for several days you will need to bring a lot more with you. For most one day hikes you can get away with bringing a little bit of extra clothing in case the weather turns bad and enough food and water to get you through the day. For multi-day hikes you are going to have to bring a lot more equipment with you.

If you want to visit some of the beautiful national parks in the USA, you might consider a multi-day hike. However, for multi-day hikes you will need to bring a fair amount of clothing so as to be prepared for any weather that you may encounter. You are also going to have to bring along a tent and a sleeping bag since you will be sleeping on the trail. In some cases however this may not be necessary if you are doing a hike that includes lodges along the way. You are also going to have to bring along enough food and water for the duration of your hike. In most cases you will want to bring along a portable stove as well so that you can cook the food.

The other big difference between single day and multiday hikes is that you will need to be in much better shape for the multiday hike. In part this is because of the greater distances that will be covered but also because of everything that you have to bring along. The gear that you need for a multiday hike can be pretty heavy and you are going to have to carry it all with you. Since you are going to have to carry this load for several days you are going to have to make sure that you are in good enough shape before you set out.

A multiday hike will also require a lot more planning than a single day hike will require. In most cases you can just show up and start hiking with little advance planning if you are just going for the day. A multiday hike will require that you plan your route ahead of time and that you determine how long it should take you to complete the hike. This will in large part determine how much you have to bring with you. You are going to want to make sure that when you are making a plan that you keep it realistic; expecting to complete the hike in a time that unrealistically short can result in disaster.
