The 5 must-see hike locations in North America

One of the best things about hiking in North America is that there are plenty of excellent trails. The ones on this list are the five that we think are best but there are plenty of other options to choose from. For the most part the trails on the list are in the west, this is mainly because there are a lot more remote areas, nevertheless there are plenty of good hikes in the east as well.

1. Mount Robson Provincial Park: Located in northern British Columbia Mount Robson is the highest mountain in Canada. The best hiking location in the area is the Berg Lake Trail. This is fairly long day hike that requires twenty five miles round trip so you may want to backpack and spend the night. The scenery is spectacular and there are not a lot of people around since the location is fairly remote.

2. Glacier National Park: Located in Montana the best hiking trail in the park is the Highline route that overlooks Grinnel Glacier. This is hike that can be handled by most people in one day with a distance of fifteen miles. This is one of the best hikes for seeing wildlife; it is also a fairly easy hiking location to get to. This does mean that there tend to be a lot of people around.

3. Escalante National Monument: Located in Utah this is offers a hike of one of the best canyons in the US. The Coyote Gulch is a fourteen mile hike that will take you through some unbelievable scenery. While the hike is only fourteen miles in length it is a challenging hike so you will probably want to break it up and spend the night so you are not doing too much in one day.

4. Bugaboo Provincial Park: Located in British Columbia this is a popular destination for climbers but not really for hikers. There is however an outstanding hiking trail that will give you an excellent view of the glacier. The trail is only six miles long but it is a steep climb so don't underestimate how hard it will be. This is also a very remote area so there will not be a lot of other hikers around. This is one of the most remote areas that you can reach on a day hike.

5. Yosemite National Park: There are all kinds of excellent hiking trails in the park which is both good and bad. Located in California Yosemite is fairly easy to reach which means that the park can be very crowded. A lot of the trails are clogged with hikers and are generally best avoided. That being said most of the hikers tend to stick to the valley floor. If you go up to the Panorama Trail you not only get the best views but you will also find that there are very few people up there.
